Early Finishers for Guided Reading
This is what we expect from you during Guided Reading
- Glue the Reading Contract sheet into your guided reading book
- Each day choose and complete set tasks
- A mobile device is only to be used every second day.
- During silent reading each day your teacher will ask you to show them the work you have completed during guided reading. If the work is of an acceptable level they will date and sign your guided reading contract.
- If you complete work that is of not an acceptable standard you will be asked to redo the task the next day.
- If all the mobile devices are being used do not just wait for one to become available, complete a different task.
- Each group will read with the teacher for 20 minutes twice a week.
- When your group is called to read with the teacher please make sure you pack up all your work and return mobile devices so other students can use them.
- If you have completed all tasks and they have been signed by your teacher, you can repeat any of the tasks that require the use of mobile devices and play the games again.
10. If you are completing a task on a mobile device remember you
can play the game or repeat the comprehension quizzes several
times until you believe you have mastered the skills.
11.Students using the mobile device for anything other than the
set tasks will not be able to use the devices until they can prove
they can be responsible.
Instructions to create a quiz
2. Sign up for free and use the same username and password as you did for Edmodo. You will need to enter your email also.
3. Click "start creating my quizzes"
4. Ignore the pop up (do not put your name o phone number). Just click "skip, I don't want the benefits"
5. Click the first option "Create scored quiz"
5 a. Be sure to put your title as your name and then Antarctica.
6. Click "Multiple Choice" or "Fill in the blank"
7. Write out your questions. Do at least 5.
8. Click "Done" when you are ready. You may need to do this twice.
9. Go to the "Share" option/tab
10. Go to the "Link" tab
11. Copy and paste that link into your Edmodo Antarctica page.
Extra Activities:
1. Read another 2 chapters from Little Brother and write a summary of each chapter. Your summary does not need to be enormous but at least one paragraph.
2. Do this activity. You must do it properly. Please do all of them.

- Comprehension: which means you may want to find a video and ask questions
- Comparing and contrasting websites or videos
- We are studying communication in Science.
- Be creative and come up with an activity which you think is fun and will be helpful.

- Get a "Point of View" card and rewrite it into your books in either third person or first person. For example, if the text is in third person, you would rewrite it in first person. If the text is in third person, you rewrite it in first person. You MUST do TWO texts. One text must be in first person and the other text must be in third person. Your heading will be the number of the card and which person you are writing it in.
- Write an exposition about why you either agree or disagree with the notion that 'Teachers should not be so strict on their students." You have learnt that women are not treated fairly while the Taliban
are ruling over Afghanistan. You need to do the following:

Design a poster on A4 which
communicates how women are being mistreated in Afghanistan. Your poster will
be smuggled (taken) out of Afghanistan and shown to the major presidents and
prime ministers of the world. Your poster needs to influence them to help
make a change to the problems women face in Afghanistan.
